Wood Care

We care about where our wood comes from and what goes on it

We know you want the best for your family. We do too.

It’s our promise to ensure our wood products will be better for you and our environment.

1. Our wood is locally sourced, sustainably harvested and milled right here in Dane County Wisconsin

We use local woods like Walnut, Cherry, and Maple for our products. They are beautiful, durable woods that last incredibly well as kitchenware and furniture. Their authentic, rich coloring naturally occurs in the wood - we never use stain. These beautiful woods come from our Wisconsin landscape and are well taken care of. Jonathan used to fell trees professionally for woodworking companies and is still committed to their care and harvesting.

2. We use the highest quality and safest finish

We've done our research and made a switch from mineral oil for wood care. Mineral oil is derived from petroleum and has been identified as a known carcinogen. We wouldn't feel comfortable selling a product that could add carcinogens to your cooking.  Mineral oil will dissipate with each use and wash. This leads to wood drying out, allowing water and bacteria to penetrate thus making it unideal for wood cookware.

We use The Real Milk Paint Company's Half & Half, a mix of Pure Tung Oil and Pure Citrus Solvent - an all-natural, entirely plant made, organic finish that is environmentally safe and food safe.

The Half & Half blend can be used on all our products. The finish prevents water absorption, repels bacteria, prevents food odors from setting in, and maintains the brilliance of your product for years to come.

3. Caring for wood kitchenware is easier than you think

Hand-wash in warm, soapy water and towel dry. Do not soak in water or use in dishwashers as prolonged soaking can cause products to warp. Our protective oil lasts a long time and does not require much upkeep. If you wish to maintain the finish on our products, we recommend oiling with Half & Half once or twice a year. This will ensure the wood’s natural brilliance and prevent fading, discoloration, and prevent food, odor, and bacteria absorption. Instructions for oil use is provided with your purchase.
